Porco Rosso
(1992)

“Stupid... He left without landing. I lost the bet again."
-Gina
Porco, oh Porco.
This pig is the main m--uh--pig?
Miyazaki loves airplanes. Trust me, it's a constant in many of his films. And sometimes they are weird. I remember watching this for the first time and I just went nuts because of how awesome this is. Action packed and enigmatic, this film is definitely one of Miyazaki's best works.
This is one of my top favorite Miyazaki films simply because the main character is so charismatic, even if he is a humanoid pig. The story is about Porco Rosso, a former pilot for the Italian Air Force--during a WWII-esque-period-- turned bounty hunter, who has been cursed by mysterious circumstances to look like a pig.
Yeah... Awesome, right!
He fights pirates, and tries to avoid the government especially in times of war. This is just a great film! I love the atmosphere and the characters, and the airplane dog-fights are beautifully animated. GO WATCH THIS! You will not be disappointed. I promise!
You'll instantly love it, and you just don't know exactly why. This is actually one of the few Miyazaki films were the main character is technically and solely the male character. Miyazaki is known for writing mostly about powerful, independent women, (which I'll talk about in the next review), and we rarely see the man take the most spotlight.
It also has this beautiful score and contains one of the best songs I've ever heard.
Please give it a listen.
Le Temps de Cerises
This song is so beautiful and always puts a smile on my face.
It's about bygone days, and there's something about this song that makes you want to be a part of those days; which is the biggest appeal to me.
Up to this day, I am in love with Gina, the beautiful owner of the Hotel Adriano.
