Hey guys,
It is definitely a sad time for artists all over the world as news broke out of Paris. Two gunmen, which has been reported as Islamic Terrorists, broke in to the Charlie Hebdo Magazine headquarters in Paris and shot down 12 cartoonists.
Charlie Hebdo is a French satirical weekly newspaper, who had reportedly drawn cartoons of the prophet Muhammed, which incited the attack.
I personally think this is a tragedy for two reasons:
-We now live in a world where humor is now a dangerous thing
-and this is a direct insult to our freedoms of speech and expression.
It seems to be the new trend nowadays, where people challenge these freedoms.
For instance, Kim Jong-Un and the Interview Contreversy in December (2014). If this continues who knows what the future has in store for cartoonists?
but the thing is, art has a funny way of saying "screw you" to the norm and continue about its business, because one way or another, someone's going to put it down on paper; and no one captures the harsh reality better than art (in any shape or form).
